How OpenlyCompared compares companies

OpenlyCompared applies the same published rules to every company on every page. This page sets out those rules.

What goes on an OpenlyCompared company profile?

An OpenlyCompared company profile shows facts the company has published on its own website or given us: what it does, who it serves, where it works, when it was founded, what it offers and, where it publishes them, its prices. Each fact shows where it came from and the date it was checked. OpenlyCompared does not publish ratings, scores or review averages.

Which companies does OpenlyCompared list?

An OpenlyCompared guide lists companies worth considering in its industry, not only companies that work with Toutmark. Toutmark clients are listed when they approve a profile built from their own facts. Other companies are added from their own published information, checked by an editor before they appear. Any company can ask for a correction or to be removed.

How does OpenlyCompared order companies?

OpenlyCompared lists companies in alphabetical order. Paying Toutmark never buys a position.

How does OpenlyCompared give “Best for” labels?

A “Best for” label on OpenlyCompared names one specific situation, such as “Best for small teams”. OpenlyCompared gives a label only when a fact shown on the company's profile supports it and the guide lists at least 3 companies to compare. Labels are proposed from those facts and approved by an editor. Paying Toutmark never buys a label, and a label can be removed when the facts change.

Why are some OpenlyCompared sections directories?

In regulated industries, such as lending, OpenlyCompared publishes a directory instead of a ranked guide. An OpenlyCompared directory lists companies alphabetically with what each says it does, and has no rankings, ratings or labels.

How are OpenlyCompared articles written?

OpenlyCompared articles are buyer's guides: what to compare, what to ask and what to watch for. The OpenlyCompared editorial team at Toutmark LLC drafts them with AI assistance, and an editor reviews and approves each one before it is published. OpenlyCompared articles contain no statistics that cannot be sourced, and describe listed companies only by the facts on their profiles.

How does OpenlyCompared keep information current?

Every OpenlyCompared page shows when it was last updated, and each fact shows when it was checked. A Toutmark client's profile follows the facts the client gives Toutmark, so it changes when they change them. Any company can send a correction, and an editor reads every one.
