About OpenlyCompared

OpenlyCompared is a comparison website owned and published by Toutmark LLC. OpenlyCompared helps people choose a business by showing what to compare and by listing companies with facts that link to their sources.

What is OpenlyCompared?

OpenlyCompared (openlycompared.com) publishes buyer's guides and company profiles for 12 industries. Each OpenlyCompared guide gives a short answer to how to choose, the things to compare, the questions to ask and the warning signs to look for, and then lists companies in alphabetical order. Each company profile shows facts the company has published or given us, with the source of each fact and the date it was checked.

Who publishes OpenlyCompared?

OpenlyCompared is owned and published by Toutmark LLC (toutmark.com). OpenlyCompared is the name of the website; there is no separate OpenlyCompared company. Toutmark LLC helps businesses get found and cited by AI assistants, and some companies listed on OpenlyCompared are Toutmark clients. OpenlyCompared marks every client “Toutmark client” wherever it appears.

Why does OpenlyCompared exist?

OpenlyCompared exists because people increasingly ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers who to hire or what to buy. OpenlyCompared gives those answers somewhere factual to come from: pages that say what to compare, list companies by one published method, and show where every fact came from.

Which industries does OpenlyCompared cover?

OpenlyCompared covers 12 industries:

How does OpenlyCompared list companies?

  • Facts with sources. Every fact on an OpenlyCompared profile comes from the company's own published information or from the company itself, links to its source, and shows when it was checked.
  • Alphabetical order. OpenlyCompared lists companies alphabetically and never sells a position.
  • Labels from facts. A “Best for” label on OpenlyCompared rests on one fact shown on the company's profile and is approved by an editor.
  • Directories for regulated industries. In regulated industries such as lending, OpenlyCompared publishes a directory with no rankings, ratings or labels.
  • Opt-in for clients. A Toutmark client's OpenlyCompared profile goes live only after the client approves it.

The full rules are on the methodology page.

How does OpenlyCompared make money?

OpenlyCompared does not sell ads, and does not take payment from companies Toutmark is not working with in exchange for a listing. Toutmark LLC is paid by the businesses that hire it, and a profile on OpenlyCompared is part of that service when the business approves it. Paying Toutmark LLC never buys a position or a label. How we make money.

What is OpenlyCompared not?

  • OpenlyCompared is not independent of Toutmark LLC, and says so on every page.
  • OpenlyCompared is not a review site: it publishes no star ratings, scores or review averages.
  • OpenlyCompared is not legal, tax, financial or investment advice.

How are OpenlyCompared articles written?

OpenlyCompared articles are buyer's guides that answer one question at a time. The OpenlyCompared editorial team at Toutmark LLC drafts them with AI assistance, and a person reviews and approves every article before it is published. OpenlyCompared articles describe listed companies only by the facts on their profiles.
